Welcome to Keene & Keene Valley, New York

Keene & Keene Valley hamlets or villages are known as the "The Home to the High Peaks."

As the experienced person knows well, these two lovely hamlets are the gateway to the Great Range boasting spectacular views of these majestic, venerable mountains. The scenery is fantastic, breathtaking and memorable but so are the villages. There are quaint restaurants, a diner, retail shops and furniture makers that mostly design in the Adirondack style with twigs and cedar and other materials indigenous to our mountain area. The Keene Valley region has an abundance of history having been chartered in 1808. The history of Keene itself consists of several hamlets, Keene, Keene Valley and St. Hubert's. The latter is home to the esteemed Ausable Club.

Ausable Club an Adirondack Mountain Reserve for members only. Truly a gem of the Adirondacks, the reserve is private, quite large encompassing over 6000 acres, it has a 9-hole golf course, numerous tennis courts, private homes, camps and multiple private lakes. The scenery is stunning and there are numerous photographers with outstanding prints of the incredible mountains, one very famous gentleman raised in Lake Placid named Nathan Farb has long since been photographing the Adirondacks for over 50 years.

Recreational opportunities abound in the area.

The hamlets offer vigorous activities many not for the faint of heart such as rock and ice climbing and hiking the Great Range. There are of course other pastimes to be enjoyed such as secluded swimming holes, great waterfalls, and trout fishing. This area attracts full time residents as well as secondary homeowners. It is a close knit, wonderful community with approximately 1000 people, their own Keene Central School District and their own library. The villages boast businesses such as organic farms, charming hardware stores, a village Mom & Pop grocery store, numerous restaurants with one offering a small liquor store and so on...
